Early Sioux Resident Dies at Chadron
Hubert F. Wiedenfield, 83, of Chadron, formerly a rancher of Sioux County died on April 18, at the Chadron Hospital. Rosary was held on April 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chamberlain Mortuary and funeral service was held on April 22, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dillon officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Chadron.
Born July 27, 1890, the son of Margaret and Peter Wiedenfeld. He was raised and educated in Sioux County and Edgemont, S. D. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 197 of Ardmore.
On December 29, 1919, he married Louise T. Meier. They spent their life on a ranch in Sioux County, celebrating their Golden Anniversary on the ranch on December 29, 1969, until their retirement in the fall of 1972 when they moved to Chadron.
He is survived by his widow, Louise; a son, William; and a daughter, Mary, all of Chadron. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank, and two sisters Mary Wallace and Helena Toy.
Pallbearers were August R. Meier, John A. Meier, Franklin Smith of Gering, Charles Smith, Harrison, William Trotter, Ardmore, and Joseph L. Henry of Crawford.
Local residents attending the funeral were Norbert Wasserburger, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Geiser, Mrs. Alvord Thayer, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Smith, Mrs. Harry Wasserburger and Mildred Wasserburger.
