Guy Wasson, Prominent Businessman, Passes Away Saturday; Final Services and Interment are Conducted Tuesday

Friends were stunned by the demise of Guy B. Wasson, highly respected and prominent Lusk businessman, and a veteran of World War I, who passed away at 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning, February 5th, at the Niobrara memorial hospital. He had been a patient there for the past 38 days, following a heart attack occurring on Wednesday, December 29, 1954, as he was working at his desk in the office of the Wasson Chevrolet garage.

Final rites were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lusk paying a fitting tribute to the deceased. During the service a mixed quartet, Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Miss Phyllis Johns, Gerald Bardo and Dale Bardo sang "Lead Kindly Light," with Mrs. Gerald Bardo at the organ. Adding to the impressiveness of the rites was the folding and presentation of the American flag that had draped the deceased's casket, to Mrs. Wasson by Chuck Vaughan and Raleigh Gagstetter representing Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4, American Legion.

Member of Lusk Lodge No. 1797, B.P.O. Elks and of Harmony Lodge No. 24, A.F. & A.M. attended the services in groups. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery where Harmony Lodge No. 24, with C.E. Marvin as worshipful master, conferred its ritualistic ceremony. Bearing the remains to their last resting place were George Gibson, Glen L. Cates, A. B. Mills, Wm J. Mill, Roy Chamberlain and Carl Lund.

Guy Bernard Wasson, a son of Walter and Nettie Wasson, was born May 16, 1898 at Wheaton, Minn., and departed this life February 5, 1955, at Lusk, Wyoming. At the time of his passing he was 56 years, eight months and 18 days of age.

Mr. Wasson's youth was spent in Velva, N. Dak., where he attended public schools. He was graduated from high school at the time the United States became involved in World War I and he saw service with the U.S. Navy. Upon his return home he enrolled in the Fargo Business College at Fargo, N. Dak. and attended college for three years.

It was at Minneapolis, Minn., July 3, 1925 that he was united in marriage to Miss Marion McTaggert. The couple became the parents of a son, Stanley, who also resides in this city.

Mr. Wasson's interests had always been in the automotive industry, and the past 30 years he had been engaged in some division of that business. In 1945 he entered business here with S. W. "Dade" Boyd, and his family moved to Lusk where he has since headed The Wasson Chevrolet, Inc., concern. Always looking to the future, it was under his guidance that the modern building that houses the concern was erected in 1948 and formally opened on January 22, 1949.

The deceased was civic-minded and took an active part in the Lusk Lions club, Harmony Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M. Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4, American Legion, Lusk Lodge No. 1797, B.P.O. Elks, and also a member of the First Congregational Church of Lusk served on the board of trustees and helped with the building program completed last fall.

Survivors include his wife, Marion, his son Stanley, who was associated with his father in business, both of this city; three brothers, Lee Wasson, Silverton, Ore.; Gerald R. Wasson, Velva, N. Dak.; Walter Wasson, Harve, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Cheever, of Longview, Wash., and Mrs. Kenneth Saubry, Burlington, N. Dak.; and two grandsons, Bradford Guy and Bruce Alan Wasson, both of Lusk, Wyo.

Guy Wasson Dies Suddenly Here Saturday Morning

Guy B. Wasson died suddenly in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in Lusk at 11 a.m. Saturday after a long period of hospitalizations. He had been in the Hospital since Wednesday, Dec. 29, when he was stricken while working at his desk in the Wasson Chevrolet, Inc. garage. His death was caused by a circulatory condition.

Funeral services were held at the Peet Chapel Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating.

Most Lusk business houses were closed Tuesday during the funeral.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Miss Phyllis Johns, Dale M. Bardo and Gerald D. Bardo sang "Lead Kindly Light," accompanied by Mrs. Gerald D. Bardo, organist.

The casket was draped with the American flag in recognition of Mrs. Wasson's service in the U. S. Navy, and at the close of the service, Charles Vaughn and Raleigh Gagstetter of Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4 folded the flag and presented it to Mrs. Wasson.

Pallbearers were: George Gibson, Glen Cates, A. B. Mills, Roy Chamberlain, Wm. J. Mill and Carl Lund.

The Masonic Lodge conferred its graveside service at the cemetery. The Peet Mortuary was in charge of the interment.

Guy Bernard Wasson, son of Walter and Nettie Wasson was born May 16, 1898 in Wheaton, Minn. He attended the public schools in Velva, N. D. After graduating from high school he joined the Navy and served during World War I. Following his period of service he attended Fargo Business College at Fargo, N. D. for three years.

Automobiles and the automobile business was his life long interest. He had been engaged in some branch of the industry for over the last 30 years. Ten of those years he was engaged in the business in Lusk as manager of Wasson Chevrolet, Inc.

Mr. Wasson married Marion McTaggert on July 3, 1925 at Minneapolis, Minn. To this union was born one child, Stanley, who has been associated with his father in the automobile business.

He and his family moved to Lusk from Denver in 1945. He was an active citizen in the community and was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge, the B.P.O. Elks, Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4 of the American Legion, and the Lusk Congregational Church. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Congregational Church the past year and Rev. Jacob Nein, Pastor, states "he was always a wise councilor and a wonderful helper in our recent building project."

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his passing one son, Stanley, three brothers, Lee Wasson of Silverton, Ore., Gerald R. Wasson of Velva, N. Dak., Walter Wasson of Havre, Mont.; two sisters Mrs. Beatrice Cheever of Longview, Wash., and Mrs. Kenneth Sauby of Burlington, N. Dak.; two grandchildren Bradford Guy and Bruce Alan Wasson, as well as a host of friends and acquaintances.
