Henry L. Wasserburger

Henry L. Wasserburger, 86, who homesteaded north of Lusk in 1916 died at the Niobrara Nursing Home Sunday May 9. Rosary was recited Wednesday evening at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Mass of Resurrection is being celebrated this Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Henry L. Wasserburger was born August 16, 1895, at Montrose, Neb., the son of Jacob and Anna Wasserburger. He attended schools in Sioux County, Neb., and moved to Wyoming at the age of 16. In 1916 he homesteaded north of Lusk. On June 26, 1929, at Douglas, he married Anna Pfister, daughter of early Wyoming settlers.

Mr. Wasserburger had owned and operated the ranch that included the original homestead until the fall of 1978, when he leased it to his son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Lorraine Wasserburger, and his grandson, J. D. Wasserburger, who have continued ranch operations in the cattle and sheep business.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Wyoming Stockgrowers Association, Wyoming Woolgrowers, and the Farm Bureau.

He had lived in Niobrara County Nursing Home since August of 1980.

The Rev. Bernard Bianco is officiating at the Mass. Music is being provided by Karen Edinger, organist, and Jeraldine Waldock who is singing "Ave Maria" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Interment is in the Lusk Cemetery. Bearers are Hugh Keller, Dick David, Ed Boner, Horace Graham, Jim Reed, Leonard DeGering, R. C. Montgomery and James Meng, Jr.

Honorary bearers are Lloyd Rhay, Charles Canfield, Ray Percival, Andy McMaster, Carl Bruch, Bob Templeton, Jim Thompson, Dan Hanson Sr., Ivan Purcell and Joe Pfister.

Mr. Wasserburger was preceded in death by his wife in 1977, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Jr. of Lusk and John of Capitola, California; one daughter, Jean Martin of Covina, Calif.; one brother and eight sisters; four grandsons, one granddaughter and four great-grandsons. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be sent to Niobrara Nursing Home.
