Jan E. Warnock

Funeral services for Jan E. Warnock of Riverton were held at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton at 2 p.m. March 29, 2004.

Interment followed at the Mountain View cemetery in Riverton.

An open viewing was held at the funeral home on March 28.

Mrs. Warnock died March 25, 2004, at the Lander Valley Medical Center. She was 83 years old.

Born in Lusk on Sept. 25, 1920, Jantine E. Kaan was the daughter of Menno and Mabel Kaan, the oldest of six Kaan children.

She received her Registered Nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Denver in 1941.

In 1942, she married Vernal "Vern" L. Warnock.

The couple settled in Dubois in 1945, following World War II. There they owned and operated the Wind River Motel and Service Station. While in Dubois, Mrs. Warnock was the primary caregiver to the community for many years when Dubois did not have a doctor.

They moved to Riverton in 1958. She worked at Riverton Memorial Hospital followed by many years at the Wind River Medical Clinic.

In 1967, they moved to Forest Grove, Ore., where she continued as a nurse.

Following Mr. Warnock's death in 1979, she moved to Alabama, where she practiced nursing for three more years. In 1982, she returned to Riverton and continued nursing until retirement in 1994, after 53 years in the profession.

Survivors include two children, Gene Warnock of Leeds, Ala., and Joanne Dalley of Riverton; seven grandchildren, Justin Gantenbein, Jolie Gies, Tony Warnock, Michael Warnock, Jennifer Jacobellis, Nicole Stone and Lisa Weinmuller; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Gordon Kaan and Cecil Kaan; sisters Shirley Wallace and Bonnie Thomas; several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, in 1979, and brother Lawrence Kaan.

Memorials may be made to Westward Heights Care Center in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main, Riverton, WY 82501, which had charge of the arrangements.
