Wilmer Wampler Funeral In Lander
Funeral services were held late last month for Wilmer S. Wampler, 71, at the Hudson Funeral Home in Lander. He died February 23 at Lander. Mr. Wampler was a resident of the Lusk community for a number of years.
He was born February 2, 1896, at Graham, Mo. He was the ninth of a family of 11 children, born to William Crockett Wampler and Mary Collins Wampler.
His childhood was spent near Graham, where the family lived on a ranch. When seven years old, his father died, and he was reared by his mother and older brothers.
In early manhood he came to eastern Wyoming to homestead north of Lusk with his mother and a brother. He later sold his homestead and purchased a country store at Pine Lodge, Wyo., which he operated until World War II, when he went to the West Coast to work.
After the war he returned to Wyoming and worked on various ranches throughout the state.
In May 1961 he suffered a severe heart attack and was forced to retire. He has made his home in Lander for the past few years.
His parents, two sisters and four brothers died previously.
He is survived by four brothers, Clyde of Yucaipa, Calif.; Ralph of Portland, Ore.; Ernest of Whittier, Calif.; and Wilford of Los Angeles, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
