Dennis F. Walsh, 85, and a life-long Chappell and Lodgepole, Neb., area resident, died Friday evening, Nov. 16, 1990. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell with Fr. Loren Pohlmeier officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. A parish rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Church.
The family has designated St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, Wyo. as the memorial.
Dennis Francis Walsh was born Jan. 1, 1905, in a sod house on the family farm in Garden County, the son of Dennis and Sarah Hickey Walsh. He attended and graduated from Goodview Consolidated School. During his high school years, he was an avid basketball player and also hunted and trapped during his youth.
He was married to Irma I. Christenson on Sept. 19, 1934, at St. Joseph's Church in Chappell. They lived in Chappell from 1934 to 1944 then moved to the family farm in rural Chappell where they still resided. He was a member of the Sidney Knights of Columbus from 1930-1940, Lodgepole Lions Club from 1956-1961, the Goodview School Board from 1957-1961, and the Farmer's Co-op. He received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben and ConAgra for living on the family farm which was in the name of Walsh for 100 years or more.
Survivors include his wife Irma, of rural Chappell; one son Jerry and his wife Beverly, of Lusk, Wyo.; one daughter, Connie Devereus and her husband, Archie, of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Everett (Mary) Walsh of Sidney; and five grandchildren.
Gehrig and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
