Charles Arthur "Chuck" Vogel

Funeral services for Charles Arthur "Chuck" Vogel, 51, of Denver were March 11, 1997, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with the Rev. Don Laue officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to Congregational Church in Lusk or the charity of the donor's choice.

He died March 8, 1997 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver following a short illness. He was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Lusk to Arthur Franklin and Ada Marie DeGroot Vogel. He was reared in Lusk and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1963. Following graduation, he worked for Venus and Ruth Kilmer at the Silver Springs Arabian Ranch and worked construction for Sterling Wittwer.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966, and served three hitches in Vietnam with the Third Marine Division, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He received an honorable discharge and was in the reserves until 1972.

He attended the University of Wyoming and then began a career as a driller in the oil fields of Wyoming and with offshore drilling in the Artic Circle and along the coast of Venezuela.

He was married twice. He and Sharon Perry were married in Lusk July 15, 1978.

They were later divorced. On May 18, 1982, he married Beverly Gale Jacobs in Calgary, Albert, Canada.

They had one child, Shawn Eric, who was born Feb. 15, 1983. They were later divorced.

He was employed by the Denver Post in the advertising department at the time of his death. He never knew a stranger. He loved to visit and could converse with anyone on any subject. He was always willing to help those in need.

Survivors include his son, Shawn Eric Vogel of Canada; sisters Linda Baribeau of Leavenworth, Kan., Bonnie Yvonne Benjamin of Plano, Texas, and Gloria Johnson of Lance Creek; nieces Cheri Ditto of Fremont, Calif.; Nita Burger and Sandie Silvers of Plano, Debbie Millard of Pavillion, Vicki Pinneo of Wheatland; nephews Kevin Baribeau of Leavenworth, and Artie Johnson of Lance Creek; aunts, Josephine Vogel of Springfield, Ill.; and Phyllis Manning of Arlington, Texas; uncle John DeGroot of Aurora, Colo.; several cousins; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Charles F. and Sarah Hannah Doenges Vogel, and maternal grandparents, Carl and Maude Maxon DeGroot.
