Services for Dr. Veirs Held Sun.
Funeral services for Dr. J. B. Veirs were held from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Sunday with the Rev. Theodore Foster, rector of St. George's Episcopal Church officiating.
Dr. Veirs, 65, of Scobey, Mont. and a former Lusk resident, died in the Spencer Hospital January 3 from a combination of a heart condition, emphysema, and pneumonia.
Harmony Masonic Lodge, with C. E. Marvin in the person of Worshipful Master, conducted the last rites.
Mrs. Dale M. Bardo was organist. Mrs. Robert Bramlet sang Schuberts "Ave Maria".
Following cremation the ashes will be scattered over the mountains of Montana.
Pall bearers, all honorary, were: Dr. Walter E. Reckling, Harry Fernau Sr., Gerald Bardo, Jim Griffith Jr., Dr. Richard Collins, Herbert Klindt, Otto Krekeler, Harry Vickory, Earl Criss, Hans Gautschi, Dale M. Bardo, Otto H. Klemke.
Joseph Benjamin Veirs was born October 25, 1897 at Kearney, Neb. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1917 and served three years with the Second Division of the 23rd Infantry. He was company clerk. He learned his life-time profession of dentistry at Kansas City Dental College. He practiced in Kansas, Wyoming and Montana. It was while he was a resident of Lusk he and Mrs. Helen Hahn of Wheatland met. They were married November 22, 1937. He was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge of Lusk, Knights Templar of Douglas and Shrine Lodge of Butte, Montana.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Mrs. Betty Fernau of Lusk, son, Richard of Billings, Mont.; Mother, Mrs. Ida Veirs of Ellis, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Chris Huck of Lebanon, Ore. and Mrs. William George of Los Angeles; six grand children
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tharp of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. Hahn of Billings, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Huck of Lebanon, Ore.
