Mildred M. Tyrrel
Mildred M. Tyrrel, age 90, of Lusk passed away on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 at Michael Manor in Douglas, Wyoming. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at the Congregational Church in Lusk with Reverend Juanita Gillies officiating. Pastor Jason Playle of the Lusk Alliance Church offered words of comfort. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mildred Maude Upton Tyrrel was born March 1, 1914 to Thomas N. and Maude Allen Upton at Franklin, Nebr. The family moved to Moore Springs Community in Goshen County when Mildred was three. She attended Moore Springs School and graduated from Lusk High School in 1933. She attended normal school in the summer and then taught school at Jay Em.
Mildred was united in marriage to Eugene A. Tyrrel on Feb. 9, 1936 by Reverend Woodard at Ft. Laramie. This was the first wedding to be held at this church. To this union four children were born. They were married 57 years when Gene passed away in 1993.
Always a very energetic person, Mildred had many different occupations through the years. She enjoyed being a nurse's aid and enjoyed newborn babies and infants. She had a special touch with babies and always loved them so.
In 1952 Mildred and Gene came to Lusk when they bought the Lusk Cold Storage. They soon added a grocery store and continued to operate these business', do custom butchering, wild game processing all the while raising four children and being involved in all of their activities including school and 4-H. They were active members of the Congregational Church in Lusk for years. They bought a ranch south of Manville and Mildred loved to watch the sheep and horses roam over her hills. They also ranched on the Happy Tyrrel place south of Lusk. Mildred had a green thumb and loved to grow trees and brought beauty to their home in Lusk with many roses and other flowers.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two infant granddaughters.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Carmen (Jimmy) Shane of Node, Karen (Kenneth) Gaukel of Keeline, Susan Severson of Burnsville, Minn.; son, Claude (Bonny) of Worland, one brother, Lawrence Upton of Hommosassa Springs, Fla. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.
A memorial has been established to the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk.
Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
