Services for Velma Geneva Thompson, former area resident and owner of the Niobrara Roping Arena, were held at Straub's Memorial Chapel in Camas, Wash., Wednesday. Mrs. Thompson died last Thursday, May 28, at Natrona County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Velma Geneva Barber was born June 5, 1906, at Fisher, Wyo., the daughter of Alice and Edwin Barber. She was reared in Fisher and attended Lusk schools, graduating from Lusk High School in 1923.
On October 19, 1923, she married Cecil M. Thompson of Hot Springs, S.D. They made their home at Lusk for several years before moving to the west coast.
Mr. Thompson died August 1, 1977. Mrs. Thompson recently returned to Lusk where she has been spending her summers. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John (Nora) DeGroote, Hermiston, Ore., Mrs. Steve (Lucinda) Johnson, Santa Rosa, Calif., Mrs. G. M. (Delores) Reed, Camas, Wash.; one son Cecil D. Thompson, Hermiston; one brother Charles O. Barber, El Cajon, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
