F.M. Thompson Instantly Killed as Tractor Flops

Well-Known Lance Creek man Meets Tragic Death In Moving House

Frank M. Thompson, 41, was instantly killed last Friday, May 20, when a Fordson tractor with which he was moving a building at his place near Lance Creek, turned over backwards, crushing his life out.

The tractor was pulling a building which Mr. Thompson was moving to a new location, and it suddenly reared up when the power was applied and toppled over on him. He was caught between the tractor and the building in such a way that he was "jack-knifed." A large metal portion of the tractor pierced his breast over his heart, causing a large wound.

Doctors Earle and Dovey made a hurried trip to the field, but were unable to render aid. According to the physicians death was instantaneous and he was crushed in such a way that he did not breathe after the heavy machine fell on him.

Frank M. Thompson was born in Illinois, on May 3, 1886, and was 41 years old at the time of death. He leaves a wife, son and daughter, to mourn his untimely death. The children have been attending high school in Douglas.

Funeral services were held in Lusk Monday at the Congregational Church, with Rev. H. H. Koontz officiating, the Armstrong undertaking parlors having charge of arrangements. The pallbearers were W. E. Hogan, Fred Lee, C. F. Bautch, Tom Bautch, John Lomie and J. F. McCullough, all of Lance Creek.

Burial was made in the cemetery at Douglas, the Rev. Jones of the Methodist church officiating at the services at the grave.

Frank M. Thompson was a man universally liked, and had a host of friends in Lusk, Lance Creek and Douglas who will mourn his untimely passing. He had considerable land leased to the oil companies and had one producing well on his land.

Frank M. Thompson was born at Pierce, Nebr., on March 3, 1886 and departed this life at his home near Lance Creek on May 20, 1927, at the age of 41 years, 2 months and 18 days.

In the year 1888 he moved with his parents to Hoxie, Kans. At the age of 17 years he united with the Episcopal church at that place.

On July 8th, 1908, he was united in marriage with Miss Christine Gilchrist. In 1914, they moved to the homestead location north of Manville, near Lance Creek.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow; three sons, Leo, Frank, Jr., and Jim; one daughter, Janet; his father, three sisters and one brother. His mother and one brother preceded him in death.

The father, F. W. Thompson of Liberal, Kans., and three sisters, Mrs. Martin of Hoxie, Kans., Mrs. D. L. Ford of Palco, Kans., and Mrs. W. F. Dielman of Keeline were with his family in attendance at the last rites.

Services were held at the Congregational church at Lusk on Monday, May 23rd, with Rev. H. H. Koontz officiating. The Armstrong undertaking parlors had charge of funeral arrangements. Interment was made in the Douglas cemetery with Rev. Jones officiating at services at the grave.
