Harry Baldwin

Funeral service for Harry Baldwin, 90 year-old pioneer rancher, who died at his home in Torrington April 20 was held at the Peet Mortuary Chapel April 23 at 2:00.

Harry Lester Baldwin was born Feb. 15, 1887, in Sanborn County, S.D., the son of Edward James and Ada Meyers Baldwin.

He attended school and grew to manhood in South Dakota. In 1910 he filed on a homestead southwest of Van Tassell. This ranch always remained his permanent home. In 1916 he married Della Hollenbeck. She died in 1920. March 30, 1921 he married Edith A. Hollenbeck. They were the parents of 3 sons. For the past 25 years Harry and Edith have spent the winters in the south, usually in Mesa, Ariz. They moved to Torrington in May of last year.

He is survived by his widow, Edith of Torrington; two sons, Harry R. of Van Tassell and Edward J. of Torrington; one brother Jess of Alexander, S.D.; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Della, one son Robert, 3 brothers and one sister.

Rev. Salim Tannous of Torrington officiated at the service. Mrs. Minerva Watson, organist, accompanied Mark Lohr as he sang "Ivory Palaces" and "Going Down the Valley."

Honorary bearers were Reuben Hahn, Andrew McMaster, Frank Podolak, Clarence Patton, Mahlon Peterson, Otto York, Ed Redifer, Dick Glandt and Bill DesEnfants.

Casket bearers were Verne Browder, Dick Herren, Wayne Hahn, Wendell Grapes, Darrell Benshoof, Ernest Splittgerber, Alvin Haase, and Charles Canfield.

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund or Heart Fund.
