102-Year Old Mother of Mayor Jones Dies Sun.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Baker, mother of Mayor Joe Jones of Lusk died Sunday at Spearfish, S.D. at the age of 102.
Funeral service was being held this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Deadwood with the Rev. Richard Cook of the Assembly of God, Lead, S. D. conducting the service. Interment was to be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Spearfish. A memorial has been established by the family.
Mrs. Baker was born to Sarah and Isacc Underhill February 24, 1870 in Bates County, Mo. She married Nicholas Pittenger May 17, 1887 and the couple homesteaded west of Newcastle.
She was married to Joseph Jones in 1905 and to Kirk Baker in 1917. All three husbands died previously. Mrs. Baker lived on the homestead west of Newcastle until 1928 moving to the Four Corners area where she lived until 1959. Since then she has lived in the Lead and Deadwood Area.
Mrs. Baker is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dora Bailey, Modesta, Calif., two sons, Joseph Jones of Lusk, and Archie Jones, Spearfish; a step-daughter Mrs. Amanda Waller, Farmington, Mich.
She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 19 great great-grandchildren and 6 great, great, great grandchildren. A daughter, five sons and seven step-children died previously.
