Ethel Jeanette Taylor

Ethel J. Taylor was born April 7, 1897 near Kirtley, Wyoming, the youngest daughter of pioneer parents, Thomas L. and Torborg Thompson. She attended country school at Kirtley, and was a member of the first class to graduate from Lusk High School in 1916.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Thomas, Lewis, Ben and Arthur and her sisters Bertha, Thea, Anna and Jeanette.

She taught school for one year near Kirtley then worked in the Niobrara County Clerk's Office and later served as Deputy County Treasurer. Ethel worked for many years at the Lusk State Bank and later served as an officer in the Stockmans National Bank of Lusk.

She married Don C. Taylor in Douglas on March 9, 1923, and to this union was born three sons, Donald, William and James.

Ethel was a dedicated member of the Congregational Church and served for many years as treasurer and historian. She is a Past Matron of the Niobrara Chapter of Eastern Star and was active in Jobs Daughters. In later years she became a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by one son Donald Lee. She is survived by Don her husband of sixty-one years, sons William of Douglas, and James of Sheridan, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Services for Ethel Jeanette Taylor were held at Peet Mortuary Chapel November 9, 1984 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Frank Blish officiating.

Music was by Minerva Watson, organist and Vee Hagerman and Shirley Saunders, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me".

Active pallbearers were Dick Pfister, Robert Owens, Jack Pugsley, Max Robinette, Richard Barnette and Rex Shoults.

Interment was at Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Niobrara County Nursing Home.

Arrangements were by Peet Mortuary.
