Mrs. John Swope Dies Here Thurs.

Minnie Rasher Swope, 71, long-time resident and pioneer of Wyoming and Western Nebraska, died in the Spencer Hospital Thursday. Mrs. Swope has been an invalid for the past eight years, she died of a heart condition.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Peet Chapel with the Rev. James Davis, minister of the Lusk Congregational Church officiated. Mrs. Emerson Bonner, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Dan Christian sang "Rock of Ages" and "We Are Going Down the Valley," accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson on the organ.

Pallbearers were Bill Hales, Ernest Hales, Dan Jordan, Harry Zimmerman, Donald Kraft and George Walker.

Honorary pallbearers were E. E. Whitman, Maurice Keel, Rulo Roberts, O. P. Harnagel, Orval Dryer and Earl Hales.

Mrs. Swope daughter of Charles and Eunice Rasher, was born May 22, 1892 at Crawford. She lived there until 1910 when she married John Swope. They homesteaded in Wyoming that fall, in the Whitman Community and lived in a tent that first winter, until logs were cut to build a house. In the spring 1956 they move to Lusk because of her poor health. Mr. Swope preceded her in death October 5.

She is survived by one daughter, Alice Hales, and one son, Clarence of Lusk; four sisters, Anna Zanders, Nora Wickstrom and Bessie Simmons all of Crawford, Pauline Reener of Harrison; one brother, Joe of California; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
