Fred W. Sullivan, Sr., Dies Suddenly at Family Home Friday Morn; Last Rites Held Monday; Burial in Lusk Cemetery

Fred W. Sullivan, Sr., well-known taxi cab operator and familiar figure of Lusk, died suddenly and unexpectedly at the family home when he succumbed to a heart attack at 4 o'clock Friday morning, December 2nd. Concluding services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 5th, from the chapel of the Peet mortuary. Rev. Otha B. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, officiated at the services.

Mesdames Otha Holcomb and Ab DeCastro sang as duets, "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," with Mrs. Judson P. Watson accompanying at the organ.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery with the remains being borne to their final resting place by Vernon Petersen, Harry Fernau, Sr., A. C. Tibbits, Ab DeCastro, Bryan Burge and Ira Lamb.

Fred William Sullivan, a son of Millage and Alma (Lyons) Sullivan was born October 31st, 1895 in Berwick, Nova Scotia, Canada.

He was reared to young manhood in Nova Scotia, and from 1914 to 1918 he served his country as a soldier in the 85th Brigade of the Scotch Highlanders. Following his return home, he met and married Elizabeth G. Aldred on Nov. 20, 1920, at KeKntville, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The couple made their home in Canada until 1923, when they came to the United States and settled at Waltham, Mass. They continued making their home in the New England states until in 1948 when they came to Lusk and began the operation of a taxi cab service. Selling their business in November, 1951, they returned to Farmington, New Hampshire and resided there for two years. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan brought their family to Wyoming again in June, 1953 and have since made their home here. Only recently they again took over the taxi cab service which they have been operating with headquarters in the Gamble store.

On November 3rd, 1954 at Newcastle, Wyo., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sullivan, Sr., and their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Sullivan, Jr., received their citizenship papers.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey, who passed away at the age of three months, on October 19th, 1940, at Farmington, New Hampshire. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of this city; and seven children, Mrs. Genevive Costello, Bridgeport, Conn.; Mrs. Beatrice Carpenter, Lusk, Wyo.; Mrs. Lila Langis, Lynn, Mass.; Fred Sullivan, Jr., Lusk, Wyo.; Jim Sullivan, Riverton, Wyo.; and Judy and Linda Sullivan of the family home in this city; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Morse and Mrs. Gladys Wright, both of Bridgeport, Conn., and ten grandchildren.

Fred Sullivan Dies Of Heart Attack In Lusk Friday

Fred W. Sullivan died suddenly Friday, Dec. 2 after being stricken with a coronary thrombosis attack. The time of death was set at 4:20 a.m.

Mr. Sullivan owned and operated the Lusk Cab Service.

Final services for Mr. Sullivan were held from the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday with Rev. Otha B. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lusk officiating. Mrs. Otha Holcomb and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson at the organ, sang "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle."

Casket bearers were Vernon Peterson, A.C. Tibbits, Harry Fernau,Sr., A. F. DeCastro, Bryan Burge and Ira Lamb.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

Fred William Sullivan, the son of Alma Lyons and Millage Sullivan, was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia October 31, 1895.

He served his country from 1914 to 1918 as a soldier in the 85th brigade of the Scotch Highlanders. After this period of service he made his home in the New England States for many years before coming to reside at Lusk, Wyoming, in 1948, and has lived here most of the time since then.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth; seven children, Mrs. Genevive Costello, Bridgeport, Conn.; Mrs. Beatrice Carpenter, Lusk, Fred Sullivan, Jr. Lusk, James Sullivan, Riverton; and three daughters, Judy and Linda reside with their mother in Lusk, and Mrs. Lila Langis of Lynn, Mass. He also leaves two sisters; Mrs. Mae Morse and Mrs. Gladys Wright, both of Bridgeport. Connecticut, besides ten grandchildren.

One daughter, Audrey, preceded him in death having died in October, 1940 at the age of three months at Farmington, New Hampshire.
