Maud Bates
Former Lusk Woman, Mrs. Maud Bates, Dies at Gold Beach. Ore.
Mrs. Charles W. (Maud) Bates, 68, formerly a resident of Roseburg and lately of Gold Beach, Oregon, died suddenly in Golf Beach, Oregon, Friday, August 13th.
She was born June 22, 1866. She married William Doughty at Roseburg in 1941 from Lusk, Wyo. She resided here until two years ago when she moved to Gold Beach. She was married to Harry Sparks at St. Louis, Mo., in 1904. He preceded her in death in 1910. Later she was married to Rev. Charles W. Bates at Roseburg on June 12, 1952
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the WCTU.
Surviving is her husband, The Rev. Charles W. Bates of Gold Beach, Ore.; one daughter, Mrs. D. J. (Juanita) Cobb, Roseburg, Ore.; six brothers, Fred Wuertz, Coolidge, Ariz.; Virgil Wuertz, Mesa Grande, Ariz.; Will Wuertz, Texarkana, Tex.; John Wuertz, Laurel, Miss., Earl Wuertz, Warshington, Ind., and Harry Wuertz, Davis, So. Dak; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Long and Orr Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16th, with the Rev. Raymond Schaefer of the First Baptist Church officiating. Concluding services and interment followed in the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.-----
