Christina Strube, 89, Member of Pioneer Family Dies; Service Fri.
Funeral service for Mrs. Christina Barbara Strube, 89, a member of a Niobrara County pioneer family will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel.
Mrs. Strube died Monday at the Converse County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
The Rev. Frank Bozart will conduct the service and the Eastern Star service will also be held. Carolyn Hammond and Dawn Hicks will sing "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. A. F. DeCastro organist.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul McDaniel, Cooley Taylor, Walt Fernau, Dale Fernau, Harry Fernau, Sr., Robert Scott, John Goddard, Earl Jensen, Lloyd Coleman, Gaylord Anderson, Lue Osborn and Richard James.
Casket bearers will be Peter Hansen, Jim Reed, William Mill, Edmond Cook, Martin Strube and Beecher (Ed) Strube.
Christina Mill was born May 20, 1885, at Des Moines, Iowa, to Philopena and Jacob Mill. As a small child she moved with her parents to Fairburn, S. D. and when she was six the family moved to Hat Creek by covered wagon. She received her education at Hat Creek and Lincoln, Neb.
March 29, 1905, she married Edmond A. Cook and they homesteaded some six miles southeast of Hat Creek. The couple had two children Helen Alma and Edmond M. Cook. Mr. Cook died in 1926.
She married Martin Strube April 7, 1931 and he died in1937. Mrs. Strube remained at the ranch until 1953 when she moved to Lusk. In 1967 she became confined to a wheel chair with arthritis and in August 1973 moved to Michael Manor Nursing Home in Douglas where she remained until her recent illness and death.
She was the last surviving charter member of the Niobrara Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, No. 26.
Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Beecher (Helen) Strube; her son Edmond M. Cook, Hat Creek; a sister Mrs. S. W. (Bertha ) Boyd ; a brother George S Mill, Hat Creek; four grandchildren, Beecher E. Strube, Casper, Martin A Strube, Gardnerville, Nev., Edmond A. Cook, Henry, Neb., and Mrs. William (Barbara) Sigler, Houston, Tex., and seven great grandchildren.
Her parents, husbands, two brothers and two grandchildren died previously.
Flowers or memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or the Lusk Museum will be equally appreciated by the family.
