Thomas Stokes
Former area resident dies
The funeral for Thomas Stokes, Hot Springs, S.D., was at the United Churches in Hot Springs, Nov. 30. He died in the Veterans Hospital Nov. 23. The Rev. Glen Hammerlee officiated at the service and interment was in the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Stokes was born Jan. 31, 1896 in Le Mars, Iowa. He homesteaded in the Lance Creek area prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1918 and saw service overseas.
After his discharge, Stokes returned to Wyoming and worked in various oil fields. For many years he was employed by Harmon Templeton in the Templeton Store in Lance Creek.
In 1929 he married Elsie Carlson, Lusk, and they moved to Hot Springs in 1936.
Stokes is survived by his wife, a son Jim of Hot Springs, daughter, Jeanie Ebbesen, Phoenix, Ariz. and several grandchildren.
