Lewis Bass, 83, Dies Monday; Services Thurs.

Lewis Jesse Bass, 83, of Lusk, died Monday, May 11 at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel in Lusk with the Rev. Dean Addington of St. George's Episcopal Church officiating. Eastern Star services will also be held. Masonic rites will be held at the graveside at the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, will accompany Mrs. Bob Bramlet, Mrs. Janice Johnson, Dale M. Bardo and Harry Lyon when they sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages". Mrs. Betty Patterson of Thermopolis will sing "The Lord's Prayer" during the Eastern Star Services.

Casket bearers are Henry Stiles, Blondie Marvin, Ed Boner, Fred Sheaman, Bus Gautschi and Don Taylor.

Honorary bearers are Eldon Kirch, Leslie ZumBrunnen, John Siemsen, Bud Cantwell, John Alter, Ray DeGering, Roy ZumBrunnen, Menno Kaan, G. L. Pfeifer and Andrew McMaster.

He was born August 26, 1886 at Stratford, Iowa where he spent his childhood. The family moved to Armour, S. Dak., in 1907, and came to Wyoming in 1910 where he filed on a homestead south of Van Tassell and later moved to the Prairie Center Community. He married Jennie Paulson March 18, 1914 at Sioux City, Iowa. They were the parents of one son, Lewis Gene. The family moved to Lusk in 1937 and continued his ranch operations at Prairie Center.

He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Harmony Masonic Lodge, Consistory No. 1 in Cheyenne, Korean Shrine and Eastern Star.

His parents, one sister and two brothers died previously.

Survivors include his widow Jennie P. of Lusk; one son, Lewis Gene, Glendo; one grandson, Lewis Gene Jr. of Glendo; one grand-daughter, Jannae E. Bass of Laramie; two sisters, Eva McBride and Ida Howard, both of Elgin, Ill.; three brothers, Charles of Jay Em, Wyo., Lloyd of Crawford, Neb., and Ralph of Vermillion, S. Dak.
