Charles Bass Rites Sept. 19

Charles Clifford Bass, 67, of the Jay Em Community, died at the Torrington Hospital, Thursday, Sept. 16, 1971 at 5:15 p.m. after an illness of only a few hours.

Born in Boone County, Iowa, December 3, 1903, the son of William and Margaret Ann (White) Bass, he went with his parents to South Dakota while still a youngster, and grew up and attended schools there. He worked for the C.B and Q. Railroad for several years, then started farming near Crawford, Nebr. He located in the Jay Em area in 1934 on a ranch 12 miles west of Jay Em and has made his home there since.

He was a member of the Baptist Church of Lingle, Lodge No. 37, A. F. and A. M. of Wyoming Consistory No. 1 at Cheyenne and was a lover of antiques and lapidary and was instrumental in forming the local "Rock Club".

On May 27, 1935 he was married to the former Mabel Fern Canady at Thermopolis, Wyoming, and in addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Delwin, of Tripoli, Libya; a daughter, Mrs. Glen (Donalee) Hood, of Lakewood, Colo.; two brothers, Ralph of Vermillion, S. D. and Lloyd, of Crawford, Nebr.; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Howard and Mrs. Eva McBride, both of Elgin, Ill.; and two grand children. Three brothers and an infant son preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington, Sunday, September 19, 1971, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Eugene West officiating and interment was in Valley View Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were performed by Lingle Lodge No. 37. A memorial to the Heart Fund has been established.
