Carl Spacht, Prominent Businessman Here, Dies in Scottsbluff Sunday

Carl W. Spacht, prominent Lusk businessman since 1935, former mayor and school board member, died at Scottsbluff, Neb., Sunday morning about 11;00 o'clock, after a lingering illness which has hospitalized him for the past four months. He would have been 75 years of age on June 7.

Until a year ago he had remained active in the C. W. Spacht Insurance Agency. He served as mayor from 1936 to 1938, and on the District 1 School Board from 1939 to 1952, the last year as president.

He was president of the Lusk Lions Club in 1944. He was a charter member of the Wyoming Insurance Association, organized in 1930 and its president in 1945, and held the first broker's permit issued in Niobrara County after the organization of the first Wyoming Real Estate Board.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon from the Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating. Mr. Spacht had long been a member of the church.

Actives pallbearers were Lyle Berry, R. C. Bafford, Wm. D. Miller, C. A. David, C. E. Marvin and Coye Jennewein. Honorary bearers were: Otto Klemke, Hans Gautschi, Ed Rumney, Duff Hollon, James B. Griffith, Sr., Ray Christian, Sam Thomas, Sr., Al Rundquist, J. P. Costlow and Menno Kaan.

Music was provided by Mrs. Samuel M. Thomas, Miss Phyllis Johns and Larry Thomas, singing "I Surrender All" and Frank Kuhn singing "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist.

Carl William Spacht was born June 7, 1885 at Seward, Neb. In 1886 the family moved to Box Butte County, Neb. where his father took up a homestead. He attended school in Hemingford and Alliance graduating from Alliance High School in 1905.

After graduation he worked on ranches in Nebraska and South Dakota and in offices in Alliance. In 1913 he entered the banking business in Hemingford. He married Sadie I. Hopkins there in 1915.

Mr. and Mrs. Spacht moved to Keeline in the summer of 1918, where Mr. Spacht operated the Bank of Keeline until 1924. He then worked for the Wyoming and Nebraska State Banking Department until 1935, when the family moved to Lusk, and where he became engaged in the abstract, insurance and real estate business.

In 1948 he sold the abstract phase of the business to R. C. Bafford, but remained active in the insurance and real estate business until about a year ago. Actually he had represented the Home Insurance Co. of New York and the St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co. for 41 years.

Since World War II Mr. Spacht has been associated in the C. W. Spacht Insurance Agency with his son-in-law, Arthur B. Dalgarno.

Mr. and Mrs. Spacht were the parents of two daughters: Jean Platts, who died in 1943 and Mrs. Arthur (Muriel) Dalgarno of Lusk.

Besides his wife and daughter he is also survived by two brothers, Charles Spacht of New Rochelle, N.Y., and John R. Spacht of Billings, Mont.; and three sisters, Mrs. E. L. Meyer of Alliance, Miss Grace Spacht of Alexandria, Egypt and Miss Maud Spacht of Portland, Ore.
