Harold J. Smith

Harold Smith, Lusk, died suddenly Friday May 7, following a heart attack. Funeral was at Peet Mortuary Chapel Monday afternoon.

Harold J. Smith was born March 2, 1921, at Fargo, N. D., the son of James and Edna Smith. He grew up on a small farm near Walhalla, N.D., and after leaving school in October 1937, he became a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps serving until honorably discharged in 1938.

Mr. Smith served as Technician Fifth Grade in the United States Army during World War II in central Europe. He received an honorable discharge in January 1946. Following his army service he graduated from the state school of science in Wahpeton, N.D. with training in auto body repair.

On February 28, 1954, he and Jackie Kissack were married at Torrington. They made their home in Torrington before moving to Lusk, where he had his own auto body shop for several years. He was employed at the Southside Truck Stop at the time of his death.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Jackie, son Carl and daughter Jessie, all of Lusk; brother William of Backoo, N.D.; three sisters; Marion of Crookston, Minn., Annabelle of Oklee, Minn. and Katherine of Grafton, N.D.

The Rev. Frank Blish officiated at the funeral. Music was provided by Minerva Watson, organist, and Joy Kaltenheuser who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Lanis Karel, Ray Marquarot, Dave Bruegger, Steve Sharon, Harold Maron and Gene Coleman.
