Grace Skavdahl Dies On Sunday

Mrs. Grace Skavdahl, resident of Sioux County since the turn of the century, died early Sunday morning at Chadron Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Memorial Methodist Church in Harrison with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating.

Mrs. Skavdahl was born July 6, 1882, at Avon, S. Dak., to Isa and Howard Wickersham. In 1902 she came to Sioux County with her brother, George. They resided on and cared for the ranch their father had purchased near Bodarc until the rest of the family arrived in 1904.

In 1905 she married Oscar Skavdahl. They lived on a homestead east of Harrison until 1912 at which time they purchased a ranch on Runningwater. They resided there until their retirement. Since that time Mrs. Skavdahl has lived in Harrison except for some years spent in Fresno, Calif.

A daughter, Susie Bowyer, two brothers, Olin and Bill Wickersham, a sister Katie Hutton, and a grandson, Clark Donald Skavdahl, died previously.

Surviving children are three daughters, Mrs. Mable Morgan of Harrison, Mrs. Anne Edwards of Fresno, and Mrs. Pearl Lenker of Escalon, Calif.; three sons, Harold of Harrison, Floyd of Oakdale, Calif. and Howard of Seattle, Wash. There are three grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Charlie Wickersham of Worland, Wyo., George Wickersham of Harrison, and two sisters, Faith Dow of St. Joseph, Mo., and Opal Bunting of Red Bluffs, Calif.
