Services for Hazel Skelton, 88, who died Aug. 21, 1987 at the Bethesda Care Center in Laramie, were Wednesday at the Riverton United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Grilley officiating.
Mrs. Skelton was born Sept. 10, 1898 in Ashland, NE to Earl and Ida Richards. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1916 and from Iowa State University in 1924.
She came to the Riverton area in 1935 and homesteaded in the Buckhorn Flats area. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Riverview Grange, Rebekah Lodge and the Buckhorn Flats Club and other extension clubs.
On June 24, 1931 in Ashland, she married William Skelton, who preceded her in death in 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Robert of Wahpeton, N.D., and Irvin of Fairbanks, AL; two daughters, Doris Small of Wheatland and Wilma Weber of Lusk; one brother, Dr. Francis Richards of Kearney, NE; a sister, Mary McCain of Salina, KS; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery with graveside rites by the Order of Eastern Star. Memorials to a scholarship for home economics in care of the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton would be appreciated.
