Loren W. Barr

Loren W. "Bing" Barr, 67, Jay Em, died September 9 at the West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff, after an illness of two years.

He was born in Alamena, Kan., September 11, 1913 to Gilbert and Elsie Altman Barr. The family moved to Wyoming when Loren was an infant and made their home south of Lost Springs. When Loren was three years old his mother died. He then lived with his father and his Aunt Melva and Uncle Charlie Barr.

Loren attended school at Lost Springs and Torrington. He worked several years for W. Reed south west of Lusk and at the 77 Ranch. Later he made his home with the Richard Barnette family southwest of Lusk until going into the United States Army in 1941. He served three and one half years during World War II.

September 1, 1945, Loren married Izetta Milnes. They lived in Douglas two years where Loren worked at the Standard Service Station. In the spring of 1947 they bought the Dan Chalfant Ranch northwest of Jay Em where they have lived since.

Loren was a member of the Church of Christ. He served on the Forrest Mound Chapel Board at Jay Em. He was a 4-H leader for several years and a member of School District 6 board in Goshen County for twelve years. He was also a member of Wyoming StockGrowers, Farm Bureau, and a former member of the American Legion.

Funeral service was held Saturday morning at Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Elwood Beeman, Platte Valley Bible College, Scottsbluff, presiding.

Minerva Watson was organist and Mark Lohr sang "Does Jesus Care" and "Now I Belong to Jesus".

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by Wieten-Dupes Legion Post No. 4. Pallbearers were LeRoy Grapes, Rex Shoults, Hobart Cockreham, Richard Barnette, Mark Harris and Raime Fosher.

Memorials have been established for the Jay Em Community Church.

Loren Barr was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lowell.

He is survived by his wife Izetta; daughter Peggy Anne Fitzwater, Lance Creek; son Robert Charles Barr, Pueblo, Colo., and five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

The family has established a memorial to the Jay Em Church or the Good Sheperd Unit at West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff.
