Ray R. Sides
Services for Ray R. Sides, 85, longtime resident of the Smithwick, S. D. area were held Tuesday, April 6, 1993, at 1:30 p.m. at McColley's Chapel in Hot Springs, S.D. with Pastor Lyla Siebrecht and Rev. Joel Rickenbach officiating. Burial was in the Smithwick Cemetery.
Sides died April 2, 1993 at his ranch.
He was born April 26, 1907, on a ranch at Lance Creek, Wyo. He came to Hay Canyon, near Smithwick in 1931 and has lived there on the same ranch ever since.
He married Helen Manke of the Edgemont vicinity in 1938.
He was a charter member of the National Cattleman's Association, a longtime member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers, a long time member and director of the Pioneer Grazing District, a member of the Smithwick Methodist Church and the Smithwick Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Smithwick; one son, John and daughter-in-law, Carol Sides of Smithwick; one daughter, Judi and son-in-law Gary Case of Piedmont, S. D., one brother, Stewart Sides of Lance Creek, Wyo.; three sisters, Esther Groves of Lance Creek, Wyo., Mable Hardman of Craig, Colo. and Ida Mae Gay of Garfield, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
