DANA BARBER DIES ROM A HEART ATTACK

Well-Known Local Man Passes Away at Reed Ranch in North Country After Branding Cattle

Dana Roy Barber, 38 years old, well known in this section of the state, where he has lived practically all of his life, dropped dead of heart trouble, about 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, after helping the Reed boys brand calves at the Reed ranch in the Cheyenne River community, about 65 miles north of Lusk.

Dana had gone with Jim and Joe Reed to brand a few cattle in the morning. About 1:00 o'clock he complained of things growing dark. Joe Reed left for the ranch to get a car to take him to the ranch house. He complained of pains in his chest, but they subsided and recurred again in a few minutes. Within a few minutes he fell over and did not regain consciousness. When Joe Reed returned with the car, they made efforts to revive him, but failed. It is believed he died before they arrived with him at the ranch house.

A physician was called from Edgemont, but he was too late to be of any assistance.

County Coroner Earl Peet and Cecil Thompson, a brother-in-law of the deceased were called and the body was brought to Lusk that evening.

Deceased had a similar attack several months previous, but thought it was a minor illness.

Upon hearing testimony of eye witnesses, Coroner Peet decided that an inquest was unnecessary.

Funeral Services held In Lusk Wednesday

Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church at 230 o'clock, Wednesday aternoon, with Rev. B. Farrar officiating, and arrangements in charge of the Peet Mortuary.

Mr. H. J. Templeton sang "Hold Thou My Hands." Mrs. Templeton and Edna Howard DeCastro rendered two duet numbers, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "It is Well With My Soul."

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ben Martin, Jim Reed, Joe Reed, Marvin Wilson, Fred Barnes and Robert Dixon.

Deceased leaves to mourn his loss, a mother in Ohio, an uncle, C. A. Barber, with whom he has made his home for the past six years. Three sisters, Mrs. Andrew Anderson and Mrs. Hutchinson, both of Ohio, and Mrs. Cecil Thompson of Lusk. Four brothers, Elmer Barber, Jr., of West Virginia; Elwood Barber of Ohio, and Floyd Barber of Seattle, Wash., and Charlie Barber of Oregon, as well as a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

OBITUARY
Dana Roy Barber, son of Elmer and Alice Coleman Barber, was born at Reedsville, Ohio, August 24, 1894, and departed this life on Monday afternoon, August 16, 1932 (Most sources say his death was on August 15, which was a Monday.)

Dana came west with his parents in 1898 and when his father died he returned to Ohio and remained with his mother until about 14 years ago, when he came west, and has resided here since that time. He united with the First Methodist Church of Reedsville, Ohio.

He had many friends in Niobrara County, who extend sympathy to the relatives.
