James "Ed" Edward Rumney

Services Held For James (Ed) Rumney Thurs.

Funeral services were held February 11 for James Edward Rumney, 60, at the Peet Mortuary in Lusk at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Rumney died suddenly February 8 at his ranch home in northern Niobrara County.

The Rev. Delbert Dick of Wheatland officiated. Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist and accompanied Mrs. Jim Rumney as she sang "Home on the Range," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Joe Kane, Leonard T. Sedgwick, Grant Sutherland, Donald Puttman, Jim Meng and Glen Hansen. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rumney, April 29, 1910, at Edgemont, S. D., and received his education in the Cheyenne River School.

December 27, 1934, he married Gladys Black at Hot Springs, S. D. and they made their home on the home ranch. He ranched with his father until 1944 at which time he took over the operation of the ranch. He enlarged the ranch in 1959 and made many improvements on the ranch in his life time. At the time of his death his sons Raymond and James Jr. were ranching with him.

Mr. Rumney was a leader in 4-H for 14 years, was a school board member for District No. 3 for five years, served many years as a member of the ASC committee and was presently a member of the Soil Conservation Board.

He had a great love for the outdoors, and appreciated quality cattle and horses. He liked to hunt and fish and owned an airplane and enjoyed flying. He talked much of his horse roundups and trail drives and other interesting events of days gone by.

Survivors include his widow, Gladys; three sons, Raymond Jerry and James Edward Jr. residing at the home ranch and Dean Clarence of Laramie; a daughter, Elizabeth Jean La Toush of Garden City, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Julius Peterson, Lance Creek and nine grandchildren.
