Lance Creek Area Homesteader Dies
Funeral service for Mrs. Otto Rohlff, 92, of Douglas was held September 13 at Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas. Mrs. Rohlff died September 10.
Mrs. Rohlff was born June 10, 1882, in Glasgow, Scotland to Archibald and Marion Lowe Black. Her formal education was in schools in the Scottish communities of Maybole and Kirkswald.
She first went to Douglas in 1908 from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, and for two years continued her nursing career, taking a position in the Douglas hospital.
Following her marriage to Otto Rohlff February 5, 1910, at Douglas the couple homesteaded near Lance Creek where they continued to ranch for many years. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1960 two years before Mr. Rohlff died in 1962.
Mrs. Rohlff was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Auxiliary, a 50 year member of Woodbine Chapter No. 18 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Douglas Community Club.
Survivors include two sons Emil and Russell, both of Douglas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son Kenneth and daughter Marion and her husband died previously.
