Harold E. Rogers
Funeral services for Harold E. Rogers, 79, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 13, 1995, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with the Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #2782 of Lusk.
Mr. Rogers died early Tuesday morning, October 10, 1995, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk. He was born February 29, 1916, near Keeline, the son of William and Julia A. (Freeman) Rogers. He attended Manville High school and at the age of 16, he started breaking horses north of Casper. Years later he worked for G.L. Pfister and in 1936 he worked for Garth Percival north of Lusk.
In 1937 he married Ella Mae Percival and in 1949, they along with their three children moved to Lusk where they operated a hamburger shop. Harold served Niobrara County for 28 years; 12 years as sheriff, six years as the undersheriff and the remaining years as County Clerk and Assessor. Harold joined the Lusk Fire Department in 1949 and served nine years as Fire Chief.
He was also one of the first certified EMTs in Niobrara County.
In the 1960s Gov. Hathaway appointed Harold to serve on the Law Enforcement Advisory Board. He also served as the President of the Tri-State Law Enforcement, consisting of Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota in 1969.
Harold retired from the Sheriff's office in 1978 and continued to live in Lusk.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ella Mae Rogers, and a brother, Hershal Rogers.
Survivors include two sons - Lloyd Rogers of Lusk, and Roger and his wife Julie of Colgate, Wisc.; one daughter, Flora Mae and her husband Cody Clark of Lusk; two sisters, Bessie Pfeifer of Lancaster, Calif., and Lucy Cox of Trout Creek, Mont.; one brother, Herb Rogers of Washington, Ill.; three grandsons-Dusty and Cory Clark, both of Lusk and Reid Rogers of Colgate; two granddaughters - Cozette Romey and Semamon Rogers, both of Scottsbluff, Neb.; two great-grandsons, Brian and Levi Clark, both of Lusk; three great-granddaughters, Kylie Clark of Lusk and Savannah Rogers and Cortine Romey, both of Scottsbluff, Neb., plus numerous nieces and nephews.
