Mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday, June 20 (today) at 2 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan for James F. Rodgers, 94, of Sheridan. Fr. Raymond Moss will officiate.
Rodgers died Saturday, June 16, 1990 at Eventide Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 31, 1895, in Kilkeel, County Down, Ireland to Patrick and Mary Rodgers. He emigrated to the United States in 1920, joining relatives in Sheridan. He worked for a period of time for the railroad in Sheridan before moving to the Casper area to work for Marathon Oil Company.
He married Thelma Kinnaman in Casper in 1927. After 38 years with Marathon Oil Company in Illco, Casper, Glenrock and Lance Creek, he retired in 1960 and returned to Sheridan.
In 1973, the couple moved to Buellton, Calif., and later returned to Sheridan in 1977. He was a life member of Elks Lodge #520. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
Rodgers was preceded in death by his oldest son, James.
Survivors include his wife Thelma of Sheridan; sons Lawrence Rodgers, Sheridan; John Rodgers, Kenai, Alaska; daughter Lorraine Quinn, Dallas, Texas; brother Brian Rodgers, Roseburg, Ore.; sisters Rose McCarthy, Sacramento, Calif.; Margaret Curran, Toronto, Canada; and 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary was recited on Tuesday, June 19, at 7 p.m. at Ferries Funeral Home led by Fr. Raymond Moss. Graveside rites will be conducted by officers of the Elks Lodge. Interment will be in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Elks Cemetery Fund or the Senior Citizens Center in Sheridan.
Ferris Funeral Home in Sheridan was in charge of the arrangements.
