Thelma O. Riddle

Services for Thelma O. Riddle, 83, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 1991, in the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Allen Kallenbach officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Riddle died Monday, July 29, at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk. She was born April 24, 1908, near Crawford, Neb., the daughter of Fred and Sarah (McNichol) Thornton.

She married Austin J. Riddle on Sept. 15, 1926, and to this union two children were born; Joyce and James. Most of their life was spent on a farm southeast of Crawford. They lived for a time in Jeffery City, Wyo., and retired in Lusk. She was a hard worker.

She loved her home, cooking, canning and gardening. In later years she babysat for many young children in Lusk and always loved them all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Austin Riddle, three sisters; Madge Close, Esta Soden and Irene Thornton; a half-sister, JoAnn Basse and a brother, Vernon.

Survivors include a son, James, of Cheyenne; a daughter, Joyce Johnson of McCook, Neb.; five grandchildren; Bob Langston of Lusk, Gary Olson of Culbertson, Neb., Carol Shepherd of Gothenburg, Neb., Lance Olson of Kansas and Murray Olson of Denver, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Garner of Crawford and Hazel McCune of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a half-sister, Rose Mary Stansburg; one brother, Leonard Thornton of Crawford, a half-brother, Gene Thornton of Crawford; and her step-mother, Mary Thornton.

Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
