Walter C. Reed

Services for Walter C. Reed, 60, will be conducted at Washington Park in Lusk, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 1995, by Reverend Mark Lohr.

Walter's death was the result of an automobile accident.

A cowboy from the inside out, he took the good and the bad with a blue-eyed twinkle, wry grin, and wise crack. He lived by the philosophy that -"if you get bucked off, you get back on," and he raised his kids the same. He had a cowboy's soul, honest, candid and true.

Walter C. Reed, son of Walter N. and Mildred Reed, was born on April 15, 1935. While being raised and attending school in Douglas, he spent much of his time at the 77 Ranch near Lusk.

After attending the University of Wyoming and serving in the Army for two years, Walter was employed at the 77 Ranch.

In 1960, he married Dede Davies of Denver, Colo. and four children were born in their marriage.

Although Walter was always involved in ranching, he was engaged in many other businesses, the most recent being owner and operator of the Cowboy Bar in Lusk. He was a brand inspector for Niobrara County for 30 years and served on the Niobrara County Fair Board for approximately 20 years.

He survived by his four children, Walter N. Reed of Glendale, Ariz.; Dory Pfister of Lusk; Randy Reed of Cheyenne; and Susan Reed of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Amber Reed of Glendale, Ariz., and Parker Pfister of Lusk; his brother, Samuel Reed of Lusk; and his mother, Mildred Reed of Lusk.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A Scholarship fund is being established in care of the Lusk State Bank.

Bader Funeral Home of Lusk is in charge of arrangements.
