Clarence A. Gaukel

Clarence A. Gaukel of Lakewood, Colo., a retired Gates Rubber Company worker, died at Lutheran Hospice on Feb. 10, 2001. He was 82. Services were held at Saint Jude's Catholic Church in Lakewood, Colo., Monday, Feb. 12, 2001. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Feb. 13 in Lusk, Father Drew Duncan officiating. Runyan-Stevenson-Capitol Mortuary handled final arrangements.

Clarence was one of nine children born in Jireh, Wyoming. He ranched with his father until he married Alma Heins. They moved to Idaho where he worked with his brother-in-law for Texaco. In 1943 they moved to Denver where he worked for Gates Rubber Hose. After he retired, he worked at Saint Jude's as a maintenance man. He ushered at 7:30 mass for several years. He was a good friend and handyman, always looking after his neighbors. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Alma, two daughters, Dianne Voltz of Kansas City, Mo., and Irene Sandhaus of Marble Falls, Texas, and six grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catholic Charities in Clarence's name.
