Martha Rasmussen Dies At Denver and Is Buried Here

Martha G. Rasmussen of Denver, 81, a former resident of Sioux County, died in Denver on September 14 where she was making her home.

She was born on April 19, 1888, in Germany and came to eastern Nebraska with her parents when a child. She received her education in eastern Nebraska schools and in 1906 married James Rasmussen. In 1907 the Rasmussens homesteaded in Sioux County where they lived until 1915 when they moved to central Nebraska. They returned to Sioux County in 1923. After the death of her husband in 1925, Mrs. Rasmussen lived in Sioux County until 1951 when she moved to Denver.

Surviving are two sons, Paul of Fort Lyon, Colo. and Lawrence of Hastings, Nebr.; four daughters, Pauline Rasmussen of Denver, Mrs. Percy (Edna) Yoakum of Chadron, Mrs. Emerson (Lillie) Buckley of Harrison, and Mrs. Albert (Stella) Publow of Jamestown, N.D.; two brothers, Paul Goebel of Moses Lake, Wash., and Bernard Goebel of Rushville; a sister Mrs. Tillie Buckley of Harrison; 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Harrison on September 18 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Boutwell of Lusk officiating. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery by the side of her husband. Casket bearers were her six grandsons.

Relatives here from away to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Percy Yoakum and daughter Donna, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Yoakum and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yoakum all of Chadron; Mrs. Bruce Wheeler of Kent, Wash.; Pauline and Shirley Rasmussen, and Mrs. Gary Woodcock and son, Grey of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Larson and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jordan of Lusk, Wyo., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Publow and Kathy and Mark of Jamestown; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mack of Crawford.
