Theone Anne Barkus-Quintard
Born and raised in a small town on the plains of Nebraska, Theone Anne Barkus Quintard on Jan. 29, 2000, had 61 years of life.
Theone was born in Harrison, Neb., on Dec. 16, 1938 to "Monk" and Verda Barkus. She graduated from Sioux City High School in 1956. Aspiring to be in the airlines industry, she enrolled in an airlines communication course in Omaha, Neb. When her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Quintard, joined the marines and asked her to be his wife, she couldn't think of anything she wanted more.
They were married Jan. 1956 and shipped off to Camp Elliott in San Diego, Calif., where their two children were born. Discharged from the Marines, they returned to the mutual hometown of Harrison, Neb. Theone spent the next few years caring for her husband and children, ranching and working as a cosmetologist in the Harrison and Scottsbluff area. Her husband's passion for riding motorcycles and her own adventurous streak enticed her into motorcycle racing herself for recreation.
In 1967 they decided to return to California where she would live out the rest of her life. There Theone, a devoted mother and wife, also made a successful career in management, working for Sears and Continental Airlines. With her two children grown and married, she became "Grandma Theone" to five grandchildren. She had been very ill during the past years, her frail body could take no more, and she passed away.
Theone will be remembered by many as a person who truly gave all she had to give to others. She loved with unconditional love. She will be forever remembered, she will be forever missed.
At the request of the family, no services were held. In her honor and memory, a memorial marker will be placed in the Harrison Cemetery near her mother.
Theone was preceded in death by her mother, Verda Pullen-Barkus, and her father Lynn "Monk" Barkus. Theone is survived by a daughter Debbie Quintard-Aldcroft of Calif.; a son Doug Quintard of Ind.; five grandchildren: Aaron Snyder, Danielle Knous, Peri Quintard, Andrew LeMonte and Travis LeMonte; two sisters: Aletha Barkus-Carstens of Idaho and Mona Barkus-Teasdale of N.M.; and a brother Donnie Barkus of Neb.
