W. Ford Porter Dies Sept. 8; Funeral in Lusk

Funeral service for W. Ford Porter was held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. A memorial service was held the same day at 10:00 a.m. at the Bustard Funeral Home in Casper before the body was brought to Lusk. Reverend Frank Bozart, Church of the Open Bible, Edgerton, officiated at both services.

Mr. Porter, 74, died of an apparent stroke while driving his car in Casper September 8. He was able to pull over to the curb before collapsing behind the wheel.

Mrs. Judson Watson, organist, accompanied Russell Olmsted, soloist, as he sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Casket bearers were Alex Miller, Clifford Ferris, Orville Allen, William Magoon, Glen Parmely, Wilmer Baars. Honorary bearers were Archie Lowthian, Don Jones, Jake Archuleta, Fred Wolters, Jim Allen, Carl Vroman, W. D. Stevens, F. W. Lockwood and John Massick.

Burial was in the family plot in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Porter was born July 4, 1897, in Pawnee, Neb. In 1910 the family moved by covered wagon to Van Tassell where his parents operated the general store and post office for several years.

In 1920 he married Mildred McBride in Mitchell, Neb. The couple had three sons, Earl, Mike and Carl and one daughter Lois. His wife died in 1926.

In 1939 he married Lois Wendt in Harrison. They lived in Niobrara County following their marriage and he adopted her son, John, by a prior marriage.

In 1955 they moved to Casper where he worked in the oil field business until his retirement 10 years ago.

He is survived by his widow; three sons; Earl, Glenwood, Idaho, John, Aurora, Colo., daughter, Mrs. Lois Burd, Casper; 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sister Mrs. Fay Brunkhorst, Lusk; one brother Freeman Porter, Casper; several nieces and nephews. One son, Mike died in 1949.
