John "Jack" Leith Garrett
John "Jack" Leith Garrett, long time rancher and resident of Johnson County, passed away July 1, 2001, at the V. A. Center in Hot Springs, S. D. Memorial services will be held at the Sussex Community Hall on July 14 at 1:00 p.m. Private burial services are planned by the family.
Jack was born September 16, 1924, in Buffalo, Wyo., to Roy and Elizabeth Garrett. Jack lived with his parents, sister Margot, and brother Pat on a ranch at Sussex until joining the Army in January 1944. He served in WWII in Italy with the Mule-Pack Division, returning home in October 1945. Jack worked on various ranches and logging camps in the Big Horn area for many years. In 1965 he married Sylvania Ross of Jackson, Wyo. They and their children made their home north of Kaycee for 30 years. In 1995 Jack and Sylvania retired and moved to Lusk, Wyo.
Jack is survived by his wife, Sylvania, sister Margot, brother Pat, five children and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
