Katherine Piper Last Rites Held At Crawford

Funeral services for Katherine (Kate) M. Piper were held February 3, at Crawford in St. John the Catholic Church with the Rev. J. F. Hartington officiating. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Engebretsen, Laurence Bannan, Joe Welling, William Limbach, Larry Zurn and Tony Roos.

Mrs. Piper died at the Crawford Memorial Hospital February 1 at the age of 78.

Katherine Mary, daughter of Katherine Wunder and Michael J. Ruffing, was born May 23, 1894 in Sioux County near Montrose. Her mother died when she was 14 years old.

She married Frank H. Piper November 23, 1915 in Chadron, Neb., and they lived on a ranch near the old post office of Unit in Sioux County until Frank's death February 23, 1947. Three children were born. She moved to Crawford in September of 1955 where she resided until her death.

Survivors are a daughter Margaret Anderson and husband Charles; two sons, Kenneth and Franklin and wife Marie of Harrison; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister Lena Ruffing, Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Paul Ruffing, Checo, Calif., and John Ruffing, Harrison. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, three sisters and two brothers and her parents.
