Funeral services for Chester Warren Freeman, 75, were Jan. 4, 1997, at the Douglas Assembly of God Church in Douglas with the Rev. Chan Bayne officiating.

Burial followed the service in the Lusk Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Keith Lind, Dave Virtue, Clint Becker, Kenny Gaukel, John McIntosh and Garth Kauffman. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Edwards, Robert Chaffin, Kenneth Wright, Wilbur F. Wright and all of his many other friends. Memorials are to the donor's choice.

He died Dec. 31, 1996 at University Hospital in Denver, following an extended illness and hospitalization from infection of the pancreas.

He was born Oct. 26, 1921, at Iola, Ill., to Jesse T. and Hazel (Mason) Freeman. He moved to Wyoming in 1931 with his parents where they lived in the Keeline community. He served in the navy from December 1941 to October 1945.He served in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. He was married to Phyllis I. Gaukel June 13, 1949 in Lusk. They made their home on the farm west of Keeline, where they farmed and ranched. He drove school bus for many years and also served as Niobrara County Commissioner from 1970 to 1974. In 1987, they retired and moved to Douglas. He most enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He served on the FHA loan board and was active in the Douglas Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife of Douglas; children John Freeman, of Erie, Colo., Susan Perl of Casper, Nancy Solomon of Fort Collins, Colo. and Robert Freeman, who lives on the family farm at Keeline. Brothers Vaughn of Quartzite, Ariz.; and Curtis of Guernsey; sisters Lucille Emery of Douglas and Vira Haller of Casper; nine grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Linda Freeman, son Timothy Freeman, three brothers and one sister.

Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
