Enid Freeman
Mrs. Enid (Ray) Freeman died August 19 at the Niobrara Nursing Home following a long illness. She had courageously fought cancer for about seventeen years, going through three major operations for the disease at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne.
Enid Lund was born August 18, 1909, to Charles and Myrtle Lund at Pierre, South Dakota. She lived with her parents at Mateland near Deadwood until the age of five. In 1913, the family moved to a homestead northeast of Node. She received her education in the Niobrara County schools, attended the University of Wyoming, and later taught in Kirtley and Manville
Enid Lund and Ray E. Freeman were married November 26, 1931, at the Lund ranch. The Freemans had two sons and one daughter. In the first years of their marriage, Ray worked for the Wyoming Highway Department and they lived in Glendo. They spent one season in Yellowstone Park. The Freemans went into the ranching business in the mid 1930's and continued ranching until they retired in 1971 and moved to Lusk.
Mrs. Freeman was a 4-H leader, County Farm Bureau Women's Chairman, a member of the Hat Creek Ladies Club and a member of the Node Homemakers Extension Club. She helped to organize the Hat Creek Sunday School. Reading, crocheting, and growing houseplants were her favorite hobbies.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her son, Donald and her parents. She is survived by her husband Ray, a son, Kenneth; a daughter Leona Lembke, Medicine Bow; brother Charles Lund, Lusk; four grandchildren, Cindy Fernau, Pamela Hammond, Rick Schuyler, and Donee Jean Freeman; one great - granddaughter, Kristi Fernau; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was held last Thursday, August 21, at Peet Mortuary, with Delbert Dick officiating. Minerva Watson was organist with Barry Lee Rumney singing "My Wild Irish Rose" and Marilyn Cockerham singing "In the Garden."
Interment was at the Lusk Cemetery. Active casket bearers were Edward Speerly, Jimmy L Shane, Burr Bryant, Pete Germann, Ronald R. Shoults, and Ralph Sides.
Cake and coffee were served at the home of Martha Bruegger after the service.
Memorial may be sent to the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
