John Bernard Mudra
John B. Mudra
John B. Mudra was born June 11, 1892 at Burton, Nebr., the son of Joseph and Rosanna Mudra. He died Feb. 28, 1984 at Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk.
In 1913, he and his family came to Wyoming where he spent some years farming near Keeline. He enlisted in the U.S. Army April 1, 1918 at Lusk. He served in France near Chateau Thierry and the Argonne in the infantry Company H 91st Division.
John and his brother Martin were stationed a few miles apart, but didn't realize that until their return home. John was wounded and suffered an enemy mustard gas attack causing him to spend a few months in an army hospital in Paris before returning to the U.S.
In 1924, he came to Lusk where he worked as a blacksmith and welder. He was employed by Buck Culver for many years and then at the Vollmer machine shop.
He spent a few years of retirement at his home in Lusk before entering Niobrara Nursing Home in Dec. 1982.
John was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Martin, and two sisters, Mary Bates and Anna Penn.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk March 3, 1984 with Rev. Roy Howell officiating.
Music was provided by Minerva Watson, organist, and Mark Lohr, soloist who sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Pallbearers were Gene Tyrrel, Ernest Hanson, Don Bone, Wayne Leno, Robert Vollmer and Ralph Sides.
Interment was in Lusk Cemetery.
