Mr. Meyer was the last of a family of ten and with him the immediate family name of Meyer dies. He was born May 31, 1882 at Rockwell, Iowa, the son of John T. and Frances Igner Meyer. In the fall of 1886 he came to Sioux County with his parents and homesteaded west of Harrison in 1903. In 1904 he filed a Kinkade plot adjoining it.

He was married to Mary A. Schaefer on May 31, 1917. She died in July of 1919. He lived on the place until November of 1946 when he moved to Harrison.

Horticulture was his life long hobby as evidenced at his ranch and village home. He grew every kind of tree, shrub and flower that he could, and when he moved to town he moved what he could. Evergreens were always a special interest.
