Florence Clara Lorenzen Miles

Florence Clara Lorenzen Miles, a native of Lusk, was born Nov. 27, 1916, the daughter of Jurgen D. and Beulah Martin Lorenzen. She died July 13, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk.

Florence was reared and educated in the Lusk Schools, quitting during her senior year to be married to Leonard Wiegand of Lance Creek in December 1933. They were later divorced in 1937.

She was employed for several years at the Carbon Black and Ann's West End Cook Houses at Lance Creek. After returning to Lusk, she was employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Florence married Lyle L. Miles on February 9, 1938 at Rapid City, S.D. To this union was born one daughter, Lala Marian.

Florence assisted her husband in the Dray Line business before moving to Reno Junction, Wyo. where he was employed with the Wyoming State Highway Department. They returned to Lusk in 1953 and she worked at the Ben Franklin Store and the Ranger Hotel as Western Union operator and room clerk. In 1958 they moved to Cheyenne where her husband was transferred by the Highway Department.

Florence worked 13 years at the Frontier Hotel, occasionally helping at the Plains Hotel. When the Frontier Hotel closed, she worked as a cashier at Cal's Restaurant until her eyesight began to fail. They returned to Lusk in 1979.

Mrs. Miles was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, a member and Past Noble Grand of Lusk Rebekah Lodge No. 12, Past President of the Rebekah District Association No. 6, and a member of the Rebekah Past Nobel Grand Club.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and those who knew her for her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Harry.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle L. Miles; daughter Lala (Mrs. Gary Lamb); three grandchildren, Lyle and Gary D. of Lusk, and Gayla (Mrs. Randy Johnson) of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; one brother, George Lorenzen and sister-in-law Maxine Lorenzen of LaGrande, Ore. and one aunt, Mae Woxnik of Canon City, Colo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins

Active pallbearers were Robert Vollmer, Clifford Cox, Paul Heany, James Meng Sr., Robert Owens and Andy Nelson. Music was provided by Phyllis Hahn, Polly Johnson, Marilyn Pennington and Anita Troudt.

Memorials can be sent to the Congregational Church Organ Fund and the Niobrara County Nursing Home or Senior Center.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Peet Mortuary.
