Funeral services for Robert Jack McNutt, age 67 of Sundance, Wyo., were held on Thursday, Oct. 11, 1990 at 10 a.m. at the Church of The Good Shepherd Episcopal in Sundance with Reverends Robert Anderson of the Church of The Good Shepherd and Kenneth H. Kinner, pastor of the Church of The Holy Family of Casper officiating.
Interment with full military honors by members of the Devil's Tower Post #4311 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #45, both of Sundance, was in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. A memorial has been established by the family in lieu of flowers.
Fidler-Roberts Northeastern Wyoming Funeral Chapel of Sundance is in charge of arrangements.
McNutt passed away early Monday morning Oct. 8, 1990 at Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance.
He was born on July 20, 1923, at Chadron, Neb., the son of Alexander Mason and Josephine (Blatney) McNutt. He grew up at Chadron and graduated from Chadron High School. He attended Colgate University, graduated from Chadron State College at Chadron with a B.A. degree; and received his M.A. degree at the University of Wyoming, Laramie. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II serving from December 8, 1942 until receiving his honorable discharge on March 4, 1946, serving in the South Pacific Theatre of War.
He was married to the former Terence Jean McCarty on Sept. 3, 1948 at Brule, Neb. He worked for the Chadron Milling Company from 1948 to 1956 and then taught school at Farson, Wyo. from 1956 to 1960; taught at Pinedale from 1960-1962; and then served as administrator of schools at Ten Sleep from 1962-1965; Wamsutter from 1965-1967; Lusk from 1967-1976 and then the family moved to Sundance where he served as Crook County Superintendent of School from 1976 until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd Episcopal and served on the Bishop's Committee as senior warden for the Episcopal Church for several years; was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, a lifetime member of the Wyoming Activities Association Board of Control; a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of Lusk; a member of the American Association of School Administrators; a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4311 and a member of the American Legion Post #45 of Sundance.
Survivors include his wife, Terence, of Sundance; two daughters, Treva Joann Cummings of Casper, and Tibbie Jean Kinner of Sheridan; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Hedgecock of Casper; four brothers; Delmar McNutt of Seattle, Wash.; Mason McNutt of Chadron; Don McNutt of Casper; and James McNutt of Indianola, Iowa.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, White.
