Scott Neal McKelvey Passes Away Friday; Burial Lusk Cemetery
Scott Neal McKelvey, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlen (Bill) McKelvey of Van Tassell, Wyo., passed away at 12:20 o'clock Friday morning July 15th, at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in this city. The youngster had been seriously hurt when he fell down a short flight of cement steps at the family home Tuesday afternoon, July 12th, and ruptured a blood vessel in his head. He was rushed to this city where he underwent an emergency operation in an effort to save his life.
Conducting services were held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 17th from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Bruning of the Memorial Methodist Church of Harrison, Nebr., officiated. The services were enriched with the singing of "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "In the Garden" by a mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wood, Miss Delores DeCastro and Howard DeCastro with Mrs. Ab DeCastro accompanying at the organ. "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" was played as the recessional.
Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with Jackie McKelvey, Ted McKelvey, Mahlon Peterson and Robert York serving as casketbearers.
Scott Neal McKelvey was born at Lusk, Wyoming on December 23, 1948 a son of Harlen and Bernice McKelvey of Van Tassell, Wyo., and departed this life July 15, 1955 in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in this city, having attained the very young age of six years, six months and 22 days.
Scott at the age of three suffered a severe attack of polio which left him somewhat disabled. But disregarding his handicap he led a very active life. He had a sunny disposition far surpassing the average child. His biggest enjoyment was in gathering wild flowers and being taken to Sunday School.

Six Year Old Scott McKelvey Dies As Result of Fall
Scott Neal McKelvey, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlen S. (Bill) McKelvey, south of Van Tassell, died at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital at 12:20 a.m. Friday after he suffered a ruptured blood vessel in a fall down a short flight of steps at his home Tuesday evening, July 12.
After the accident the boy was rushed to the hospital where an emergency operation was performed.
Funeral services were held at the Peet chapel Sunday at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Brunning of Harrison officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Wood, Miss Delores DeCastro and Howard DeCastro sang "In The Garden" and "In The Sweet By and by", accompanied by Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, organist.
Pallbearers were: Jack McKelvey, Ted McKelvey, Mahlon Peterson, and Robert York. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

He is survived by his parents; three brothers: Ronald, Donald and Steven; his grandmother, Mrs. Emma DeKay of Harrison; his grandfather, Edward McKelvey of Lusk; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. One brother, Dennis Charles, died previously.
