Funeral Services For Mrs. Woody Held Saturday

Final rites for Mrs. Retta Woody, long-time resident of this community, but who of late years resided at the Woody ranch near Glendo, were held Saturday afternoon at Manville.

Mrs. Woody died at a Denver Hospital, where she had been taken in an effort to save her life. The remains were sent here for burial at Manville.

Funeral services were held in the Manville Methodist Church, with Rev. J.E. Sears officiating. Interment was made in the Manville cemetery. The Peet Mortuary of Lusk was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Relatives of this community who survive are; Mrs. Ethel Dern, sister; Mrs. Mattie Hitshew, mother; Oliver and Charles Hitshew, brothers, and Mrs. Ed Kirk, niece.

Mrs. Retta Woody Is Victim of Long Illness in Denver

Word was received here late this (Thursday) afternoon, announcing the death of Mrs. Retta Woody, former long-time resident of this county, and who for the past several years, has lived on the famous Horseshoe ranch near Glendo. Mrs. Woody passed on at a hospital in Denver, the victim of a lingering illness.

She had been suffering for some time, and last week was taken to Denver in the hopes of obtaining relief.

Her condition suddenly became worse Wednesday and relatives here were sent for. Her brother, County Commissioner Oliver Hitshew and wife, and Mrs. Ed Kirk, a niece, left for her bedside last evening.

Besides the above-named relatives, deceased is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mattie HItshew, of Manville, another brother, Charles HItshew of Jireh, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Dern, of Manville, and a daughter, Miss Stella, who is a teacher in the Encampment, Wyo. schools. Her husband and a daughter preceded her in death, the former passing away during the epidemic of influenza in 1918, and the daughter dying in 1912.

Mrs. Woody had been an invalid for more than twenty years, although she lived an active life most of that time. She taught school until about two years ago, going about in a wheel chair. She was well known to many of the residents of this vicinity, who will regret deeply to learn of her death.

The remains will be brought to this city Friday, and burial will probably take place in the Manville cemetery, where the husband and daughter are buried. Complete arrangements for the final services have not yet been made.

Final Services for Mrs. Retta Woody Held At Manville Saturday

Final services for Mrs. Retty (Retta) Woody, who passed away at a Denver hospital Wednesday evening, April 25th, were held from the Methodist Episcopal church at Manville last Saturday after noon, April 26th, at 3 o'clock. Rev. Sears, pastor of the church officiated. Several selections were rendered by the mixed quartet of Manville composed of Ras Baughn, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Sears and J. A. Manorgan, accompanist, Miss Erma Howard. Interment was made in the Manville cemetery, alongside of the graves of her husband and daughter. Arrangements were under the direction of George Earl Peet of the Peet Mortuary of this city.

A large number of friends, who had known the deceased during her early residence in this county were in attendance to pay their final respects. Pall bearers, all friends and neighbors of the Glendo vicinity, were Charles Wormwood, Dave Gordon, William Conlough, Clark Coleman, Fred Watters and Bert Collins.

Mrs. Woody had been in failing health for some time. Invalided for more than twenty years, yet she lived an active life, and for many years taught school, resigning this work but two years ago, when her condition became such that continuance of her profession was physically impossible.

Surviving the deceased are her mother, Mrs. Mattie Hitshew, of Manville, two brothers, Oliver HItshew of Keeline and Charles Hitshew of Jireh; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Dern, of Manville; and one daughter, Miss Stella, of Encampment.
