Grace Reed McCain, Early Resident Here, Dies at Yakima
Grace Reed McCain, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reed, who pioneered here from Boston, Mass., died May 9 at Yakima, Wash. Funeral service was held May 11 and she was buried at Takoma Cemetery in Yakima. The Rev. Dr. Donald M. Salmon, pastor of First Christian Church, officiated.
She was born in Fall River County, S.D., April 18, 1890, and graduated from Sioux County High School in Harrison in 1905. In 1907 she was married to E. C. McCain of Elgin, Neb. They lived in Edgemont for a time, but later moved to Elgin. From there they moved to Yakima.
Mrs. McCain also spent some time in California and Indiana caring for an ill daughter and grandchildren.
Later she came to visit her sister Amy Story and was with her at the time of her death. She also often visited her niece, Mrs. Hopper, other relatives and friends in Harrison.
Mrs. McCain was the mother of eight children. Mr. McCain died in 1965. Survivors include one son, Carroll McCain; two daughters, Martha Glucoft of Yakima, and Mrs. Monty Montgomery of Union Gap, Wash; one brother, Joe Reed of Rapid City, S.D.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
