Laura Belle Maul, 91, died August 10, at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty Mo. Graveside services were held August 12 at the Fairview Cemetery in Liberty with Rev. Robert Reading officiating.
Laura was born August 19, 1895 to William A. and May B. (Wing) Smith. Her parents died when she was very young and she was then raised by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newell in Salida, CO.
In the early 1920's she worked as a Harvey girl for the railroad. It was there she met and married her husband. He was killed one year later while working on the Railroad. One son died in infancy.
She was a pastry cook in San Francisco, and a ranch cook in Montana. She also cooked for the Orchard ranches in Ten Sleep for several years. In 1973, she retired and made Lusk her home for ten years. In 1983, she moved to Missouri to live with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mace.
She will be remembered by her friends in Lusk for her love of birds, small animals and the outdoors.
